HISTORY OF DEHRADUN


Dehradun city is located in the Doon Valley, due to the cold temperature  in Dehradun, it is also known as winter capital it's situated between Outer and the Central Himalayas, its size is like Dona (Drona).

In 1817, it was made a district and included under Meerut Division.

Dehradun is in Garhwal division since 1975

It is believed that according to Vedic literature, before the Aryans, people of the Asur caste lived on this land.

It is believed that Acharya Drona's ashram was here since the Mahabharata period. For this reason, this valley is known as Drona Valley.

In 1699, Guru Ram Rai, who came from Punjab, built a gurudwara which is the center of this city today. Perhaps it was named Dehradun because of Guru Ramrai's encampment here. Which later became famous and known as Dehradun.

Major sites of Dehradun region


1. Kalsi: It is situated on the banks of The Yamuna in the southern part of the Jaunsar Bawar region. Ashoka's writings in the Pali language are inscribed on the famous pictograph here. The Brahmi script has been used in this article.

2. Lakhamandal: This place is located 125 km from Dehradun and 62 km from Chakrata at the confluence of Yamuna and Rikhnad River. People believe that the Lakshagriha was built here during the Mahabharata period.

3. Bairatgarh: This place is situated 15–14 km from Chakrata on the Chaurani peak. Some ruins have also been found here, it is said that during the Mahabharata period, Pulind was the capital of King Virat. Arjuna's son Abhimanyu was married to Virat's daughter Uttara.

4. Hanol: This site is on the banks of Tons, 110 kilometers from Chakrata. Jaunsar Bawar is the largest pilgrimage center of the people here. Here is the largest temple of Mahasu deities.

Queen of Mountains' Mussoorie - Mussoorie is one of the oldest hill stations in India. The real founder of the Mussoorie city was an Irish officer working in the Bengal Army of the East India Company. On 4 March 1820, Tehri Naresh Sudarsha Shah leased the existing land of Mussoorie Nagar for 80 years to the East India Company through a treaty. The city is located at a distance of 32 km from Dehradun. It offers a stunning view of the Himalayan mountain ranges in the North East. Mussoorie is famous for its natural beauty, lively social life, and entertainment. Mussoorie is the gateway to the temples of Gangotri and Yamunotri. The highest peak here is the Gunhill hill. Among the scenic spots here are Camptiphal, Camel's Back, Municipal Garden, Masi Falls, Sahatradhara, Chakrata Falls, Sarjarj Sarrest House, Nag Tibba, Dhanaulti, Landor Bazaar, and Kulri Bazaar.

1. Bhadraj Temple - This temple is located 15 km from Mussoorie. The temple is dedicated to Lord Balabhadra, the forefather of Lord Krishna.

2. Jwalaji Temple - Jwalaji Temple is situated on the Binong hill at an altitude of 2104 meters in a west direction 9 km from Mussoorie.

3. Camel Bank - This place offers a beautiful view of the sunset. At that time it appears like a sitting camel.

4. Gun Hill - Thrill climbing can be enjoyed by ropeway from Mussoorie to Gun Hill. Gun Hill has a height of 2122 meters above sea level. The site is the second highest peak in Mussoorie after Lal Tibba.

5. Surkunda Devi Temple: Surkunda Devi Temple, 33 km from Mussoorie near a village called Kaddukhal at an altitude of 3030 meters. The temple is situated on the top of a mountain. The religious significance of this temple is immense.

6. Mussoorie Lake - This is the latest developed picnic spot on Mussoorie-Dehradun route

7. Kamptyee Fall – 15 Km from Mussoorie on Yamunotri Road (in Tehri Is the most beautiful and huge waterfall. (at a height of 50 feet ) in the picturesque plains of Mussoorie.

Rishikesh - It is a sub-city of Dehradun, which is situated at the confluence of the Ganges and the Chandrabhaga river on the Tehri Dehradun border, 24 km north of Haridwar. Since ancient times, this city has been the center of meditation and spiritual consciousness of sages and sages. According to the religious texts, God was obtained by conquering the senses at this place by Rabya Muni, hence the place was named Hrishikesh (Lord of senses - Vishnu). It is now known as Hrishikesh due to pronunciation defects. Major visiting places in Dehradun district are:


1. Tapovan – Lakshaman did penance at this place located in Tehri district near Laxman Jhula at the northern end of Rishikesh.

2. Laxman Jhula - Badrinath on the ancient route of Kedarnath suspension bridge built on the river Ganges, 5 km north of Rishikesh on the ancient route, is a suitable excursion site. There is also a temple of Laxman. This place falls in Tehri district.

3. Triveni Ghat - This is a bathing ghat which is echoed every day in the evening at the Go Aarti that takes place on the banks of the Ganges.

4. Neelkanth Mahadev - Neelkanth Shiva Temple 8 km from Laxman Jhula on the banks of river Ganges. Away is located on a hill (in Pauri). There are Shambhu Nisambhu mountains here.

5. Bharat Mandir - Bharat Mandir is the oldest temple in Rishikesh. It is located near Triveni Ghat.

6. Kailash Niketan Temple - This is an important temple situated on the Lakshman Jhula. Here the idols of all the deities can be seen in the 13-storey building. This place is in the Pauri district.

7. Shivanand Jhula - Also known as Ram Jhula, this jhula bridge is built on the Ganges river near Swargashram.

8. Shatrughan Temple - This ancient temple is dedicated to Lord Shatrughan. It is located at a distance of km from Rishikesh.

9. Shivanand Ashram - It was founded by Swami Shivanand. It is a famous spiritual center.

10. Muni ki Reti - This place is situated on the right side of the Ganges in the Tehri district at the northern end of Rishikesh. In front of it there is Swargashram, Geetashram, Geeta Bhawan (of Geeta Press), and the temple of Bhootnath in Pauri on the left side of Ganga.

About Haridwar

Haridwar is a very special city of the Garhwal region, which is situated on the right bank of the Ganges between the Shivalik range of “Bilva” and the “Nil” mountains”, from where the Ganga descends into the plains. From 1988 till the formation of the state, it was comes in Saharanpur division but after its formation, made a district of “Garhwal Division”.

Haridwar has been named in the Puranas and Sanskrit literature by the names of Gangadwar, Gate of the Gods, Gateway to the Shrines, Gate of the Four Dhammas, Swargadwar, Mayapuri or Maya Kshetra etc.

The worshipers of Shiva who go on a journey to Kedarnath are called Hardwar connecting it with Shiva.

Vaishnavism travelers who visit Badrinath are called Haridwar.

It is believed that before the Ramayana period, there was the ashram of Kapil Muni, in which Indra had secretly tied the horse Ashwamedha Yagya of Suryavanshi king Sagara, while searching the horse, the 60000 Sagara son reached the ashram of Kapil Muni and called Kapil Muni abusive on which Kapil Muni Angry and devoured them with his curse. Later Bhagiratha, the descendant of Sagara, did penance to bring the Ganges to earth and saved his spiritual descendants from the curse of Kapil Muni.

Haridwar is also called “Kapila” in the name of “Kapil Muni”.

 According to ancient historians, the forest area of ​​this region, was famous as "Khandavavan", in which the Pandavas were hiding here during their exile.

Dhritarashtra, Gandhari and Vidur had renounced their bodies and Vidur had narrated the Mahabharata story to the Maithriya sage here.

Around 2056, King Bhartrihari, elder brother of King Vikramaditya of Ujjain meditated on the Shivalik range of Haridwar and composed two great texts (Niti Shatak and Vairagya Shatak)

King Vikramaditya built Paudiyan (Stairs) on the Ganges, in memory of his brother (Bhartrihari), who was called Paidi. Over the years, this has called “Har Ki Paidi”, Vikramaditya had also built a building here which is still known as "Dat Wali Haveli".

 

It is believed that

Chinese traveler Hensang came to Haridwar in 634, he called this city "Mo-Yo- Lo" and Ganga as “Maha Bhadra”.

Cunningham refers to "Mo-Yo-Lo" from Mayurpur.

Timurlang came to Haridwar in 1399. Its historian Saruddin has called Haridwar as “Kayopil or Kupila”.

Akbar's period, historian Abulafzal writes in it book “Aaine Akbari” that Maya itself has been known as “Haridwar”. He also says that Ganga water was used in Akbar's kitchen, this water was brought from Haridwar in huge pots during Akbar's time.

In 1608, during the reign of Jahangir, the first European traveler “Tom Karyat” came to Haridwar. He called Haridwar the “capital of Shiva”, Jahangir himself was coming to Haridwar for a few days in 1620.

After the arrival of Ramananda (1400 - 1470), the Ramavat sect and the Vaishnava wave gave Haridwar a reputation as the chief pilgrimage of the Hindus.

Alexander Cunningham, who was the Director-General of the Archaeological Survey of India operated by the British Government, did an archaeological survey here between 9862 to 1865. According to his report, Gangadwar, Har-ki- Paidi, Maya Devi Temple, Bhairav Temple, Narayan temple and the fort of Rajawane were the main sites of that time.

The Nausari Gram Sudhar Samitee is also trying to contribute to fighting against Corona Virus. As such, we are all well aware that today the Corona virus, Covid-19, has spread in the world as a global pandemic. And the whole world is fighting against this global pandemic.

It is believed that it originated in Wuhan city of China in October 2019, and it was announced by China. Later it was named as Covid-19 and Corona virus by China. There have been about 4645 deaths in China due to this pandemic so far and about 2 million people in China were found infected with this virus. Today, this Corona virus, Covid-19 of China has spread like a pandemic in the whole world, due to which no country has remained untouched by this pandemic. Its great impact was seen in Italy after China, there were about 32735 deaths due to this Corona virus in Italy which continues even today.

If we saw today, America, which is considered the most powerful country in the world, is also facing this pandemic. America today ranks first in the list of countries affected by this global pandemic compared to other countries. The number of people infected and killed by corona has increased a lot. In the US, about 1.6 million people are infected with the coronavirus and about 98000 people have died from this virus so far.

If we talk about India, India took many important steps to fight this pandemic in the beginning. the Prime Minister (Narender Modi) was declared a lock-down in all the states in time. As a result, so far the situation in India is very good compared to other countries. All the people of India is giving full support of the Prime Minister to fight against this global pandemic.

The entire world is going through an economic crisis due to this global epidemic. In India, the government of India gave 20% of the GDP to the country for financial help. Which will fulfill the need of the entire country to fight against this global pandemic. All the states and people of India are also fully supporting the Government of India in fighting against this global epidemic.

One of these states of India, the 27th state of the country, known as "Dev Bhoomi", Uttarakhand state is also not untouched by this Corona, Covid-19 virusThere are 13 districts in the state of Uttarakhand out of 13 district 6 districts (Almora, Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Haridwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar) are under the high effect of this global pandemic.


The main reason for the increase in coronavirus cases in the state was the diaspora and workers from different countries, where the impact of this epidemic was high, but the state chief minister, district magistrate, and villagers together took many important steps to fight this epidemic. Due to which the number of infected cases in the state was only around 156.

Steps were taken to fight Corona in Uttarakhand state are:-

first, Migrant Indians were kept by the state in the continent for fourteen days on the border of their state so that the people of the state could not get infected by this coronavirus.

Second, all those NRIs in the state were kept separately and made arrangements such as food, mask,  sanitizer etc.,


About 70% of the overseas Indians in the state are working for employment in other countries. Due to the lockdown in the whole world, due to the stagnation of employment and other services there were overseas Indians who were from those countries The Government of India has brought them back to their country safely and efforts are on to bring them.

The people of the state are also giving full support in this Corona , Covid-19 virus pandemic, and the overseas Indians who are kept in quarantine. They too are showing their different style to fighting this pandemic. For example, in the village Lassya which comes under Rudraprayag district of the state, migrant Indians were quarantine in various schools, Inter College, etc were prepared themselves to fight against this global pandemic in a way that would inspire everyone.


Members of the Nausari Gram Sudhar Samitee are also contributing to fight the Kovid-19 virus epidemic. The Nausari Garm Sudhar Samitee issued a notice to collect funds to help the migrants stranded in various countries. Arrangements were made for migrant brothers and sisters in the village for their shelter, food, and health during lockdown so that they would not feel disenchanted during the period of 14 days Quarantine.

The Nausari Gram Sudhar Samitee, understands the importance of education well that development of any country is not possible without education. For the development of Saraswati Vidya Mandir School, Nausari (District Rudraprayag), numerous individuals of the town donated their property for the school with the goal that the poor students of the towns could get a good education.

The Samitee always ready for whatever important steps have to be taken for the village and the region, many reliable steps have been taken by the Samitee for the development of the village, which is very commendable.

If we talk about Panchayat Bhawan, situated at Nausari village where the people of the villagers, put their suggestions in front of the Samitee.


This Panchayat Bhavan of the Samitee was in a damaged condition for a long time. At the 35 Annual Day Celebrations, Ms. Lakshmi Rana announced to donate ₹ 300,000 to the Nausari Samitee for the construction of the school and panchayat bhawan building. After receiving the funds, the Panchayat Bhawan Nausari got its new face. This was possible only by Ms. Lakshmi Rana ji who supported the institution at all times for the development of the Samitee and its village. The Nausari Gram Sudhar Samitee, thanks wholeheartedly wish  her a bright future, this amount boosts the morale of the organization.

The Saraswati Vidya Mandir School run by the Nausari Gram Sudhar Samitee,  is from nursery to fifth standard. There are almost 90 student studies in the School.  Saraswati Vidya Mandir runs through donations by Nausari Samitee Member’s and village people. The higher educated students of the villages  have  given their contribution to study in the Sarswati Vidya Mandir School. The results of the students of Saraswat Vidya Mandir School have always topped  to the other schools in the district.
